Mrs. Wilma Gibson, born on July 30, 1934, in Green County, Alabama, was a beloved matriarch and beacon of strength and compassion to all who knew her. She was one of five children to the late Mattie Thompson and grew up surrounded by the warmth and love of her close-knit family.
On June 2, 1957, Wilma married the love of her life, Eddie Gibson, who preceded her in death. Their union was blessed with three children: Velisha, who preceded her in death, Twila, and Edward. Wilma and Eddie built a life rich in love and dedication, always putting family first.
Throughout her life, Wilma exemplified hard work and service, holding various positions in education and healthcare. Her roles not only provided for her family but also allowed her to touch countless lives with her nurturing spirit and unwavering commitment to helping others.
Wilma was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Aaron; a sister-in-law, Jackie; a son-in-law, Jesse; and two cherished grandchildren, Juan and Cousette. Despite these losses, she carried her family’s legacy forward with grace and resilience.
On Saturday, October 11, 2025, Wilma peacefully departed this life in the comfort of her home.
Mrs. Gibson leaves to cherish her memory: her daughter, Twila; three sons, Edward (Dorothy), Ronald, and Ikari; six beloved grandchildren, Mozzell, Shavon, Velisha(Curt), Jasmine (Sean), Brittany, and Edward Jr.; and four precious great-grandchildren, MaKenzie, Edward III, Morgan, and Ja’Sean. Her life is also celebrated by her three loving sisters, Gladys (Josh), Bertha (Marshall), and Virgua; her devoted brother, Glee Thompson, Jr.; and a host of other relatives and dear friends.
Though her physical presence may no longer be with us, Wilma Gibson’s legacy of love, service, and dedication will forever remain a guiding light for her family and community.
