Walter “Walt” Moultrie Jr was born on July 21, 1949 to Walter and Cecil Moultrie. He accepted Christ at an early age under the leadership of his grandfather, Reverend E.D. Craig.
He was a proud graduate of Wenonah High School, Class of 1967. Walt enlisted in the U.S. Air Force from 1968-1972. In 1972, he joined the 35th Aeromedical Evaluation Reserve Unit at Maxwell Air Force Base. Walt received several Air Force commendation medals and meritorious service awards during his military service. Walt furthered his education at Lawson State Community College, received Architectural Drafting and Carpentry degrees. He retired from military service in 1998.
Walt married the love of his life, Yvonne “Renee” on July 8, 1972. Two children were born to their union, Damon in 1975 and Dione arriving in 1980. Walt established 3R-Roofing, Remodeling, and Repair Company providing construction services throughout the city of Birmingham.
Walt had a servant’s heart. He served the Central Park community as a little league baseball coach for a number of years. He actively volunteered at Princeton Elementary, continuing to serve several years after his daughter moved to middle school. He also served in multiple ministries at Rising Star Baptist Church including the Fishers of Men and Culinary Ministry.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Evanzola, and brothers Isaac “Ike” and Ryan Dell. He leaves to cherish his memories: his loving wife of 52 years, Yvonne Renee, his son Damon (LaSonja), daughter Dione (Steven), six grandchildren – Ryan, Amaya, Brooklyn, Damon, Lauren, & Langston, loving siblings – Gregory (LaQuitta), YoThera (LaDale), Armetta (Bobby), Rosalyn, and Chris; and cousins, nieces, nephews, and a large extended network of family and friends. He cherished his relationships with his special cousins: Geraldine, Sam, Gene, Stephon, Qualon, Jamal, & Kim
