He confessed Christ at an early age and became a member of Peace
Missionary Baptist Church Pratt City. He later became a member of First Baptist Church Booker Heights, where he loved singing in the choir. His favorite song was "Near the Cross".
His education began at Miss Brown's Kindergarten. He attended South Pratt Elementary and graduated from Western-Olin High School.
Right after graduation, he joined the United States Marine Corps. He fought in the Vietnam War, received several Medals and an honorable discharge in 1968.
Tommy married Ethel Bell Long August 21, 1978. He told everyone how much he loved his wife, who lovingly cared for him until he passed.
Tommy was a caring and kind person who never met a stranger. He loved to dance. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing and cooking.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sons, Tony Vann, Terrez Roberts, grandson Brandon Vann, infant granddaughter Destiny Roberts, brothers, Leroy Roberts Jr and Larry Wayne Roberts Sr.
He leaves to mourn his passing: a loving and devoted wife, Ethel Roberts, daughters Tamala Vann, Tara (Fred) Walker, sons, Tommy Roberts Jr, Curtis (Laria) Summerville Jr, Christopher Roberts, twenty-three grandchildren, twenty six great grands, one great-great-grand, brothers, Clarence (Brenda), Roderick, Harvey (Marilyn) Roberts, sisters, Evelyn Robertson, Margaret (CJ) Miller, Earmatene (Jay) Richardson, Marilyn (Earl) Allen, Sister-in-Law LaGreta Roberts and a host of other relatives and friends.
