The story began on September 20, 1966. A beautiful baby girl
could not wait to come into this world and was born prematurely at
just over four pounds. She was welcomed by her parents Tommie and
Willie Mae Bryant and three sisters. The baby girl was named Sharon
Gail, although one of her sisters wanted to name her Collette. As with
all of the Bryant girls, Shay (as she would be known}, attended,
worked and worshiped at Nichols Temple A.M.E. Church. Her
parents lived by, "As for me and my house we will serve the Lord."
Shay confessed her love for the Lord at an early age and lived her life
where his light shined. She served on the Stewardess Board and
enjoyed working with the youth and Sunday school.
She enjoyed her occupation as an optician at VA Hospital in
Birmingham, Alabama. There she enjoyed her co-workers and helping
veterans. She spread her love and compassion for all with that glowing
smile. Sharon was a gifted student and excelled academically,
graduating with honors. She was known for her determination and
warm personality. To her big sisters, Shay was also the typical, sweet
but little chatty sister.
On May 28, 1994, Sharon married the love of her life James
Dawson. They shared over twenty five years of love and happiness
until death parted them on May 19,2020. Sharon spent over twenty
years fighting breast cancer but not one moment parted her from
believing in Gods' grace. The Lord gave her many good years
including girls' trips with her sisters and great nieces, a twenty fifth
anniversary trip to Hawaii and countless hours praising and serving the
Lord.
You could always find Shay engrossed in another favorite past
time, reading books. Her favorite author was Maya Angelou and she
often quoted her saying, "I've learned that people will forget what you
said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how
you made them feel." Shay left this place with a smile on her face
which we will forever hold dear.
Sharon was preceded in death by her parents. She leaves to cherish
her memories her beloved and dedicated husband, James Dawson;
three sisters: Zelda (Louis) Clements, Gwendolyn Bryant, Lola Bryant;
sister-in-law: Angela (Brennon) Stallworth; brother-in-law: Mario
(Rosura) Dawson; nephews: Alvin Lewis, Jr. and Joseph (Raynetta)
Lewis; nieces: Veronica Stallworth, Ashley Stallworth, Carol (Brent)
Carpenter; Tee Tee's girls Zoe and Ziya; and a host of great nieces,
nephews, cousins and generous loving friends.
