Roger Edward Smith was born March 22, 1949 to Ransom & Laura Mae Smith in Birmingham, Alabama. At an early age, he committed his life to Christ at The Rising Star Baptist Church under the pastorate of Rev. Agee Hamilton. He later became a member of Faith Temple Church under the pastorate of Dr. Ruby Kile where he served as a member of the choir.
He received his education at Princeton Elementary School, A.H. Parker High School and Bishop College. He served in the United States Navy and was honorably discharged after years of service. After moving to California, Roger pursued his passion as an actor. He appeared in several major network productions and movies, including The Bodyguard, Head of the Class, Life Goes On, In the Heat of the Night and Matlock.
After a brief illness, Roger exchanged life for eternity on May 11, 2020.
He is survived by his siblings, Anthony (Conni) Smith, Yvonne (Walter) Moultrie, Pamela (Alvin) Smith, Ransom Smith III and Rev. Herman Maxwell.
Roger was loved by many and will be sorely missed by his Aunts, Uncles, Nieces, Nephews, Cousins and many friends.
Safely Home
I am home in heaven dear ones, oh so happy and so bright,
There is perfect joy and beauty in this everlasting light.
All the pain and grief is over, every restless tossing passed
I am now at peace forever, safely Home in heaven at last.
