Robert Earl Edwards, Sr.

Robert Earl Edwards, Sr. was born to the late Fred & Marie Edwards on February 1, 1943 being the tenth child born of eleven children.

Robert began his education in the Birmingham City School System before migrating to the state of New York.  After relocating to New York, because of his resilience and determination, he overcame being a high school dropout, returned to school and continued his education earning a Master’s Degree in Education.

His career focused on being a United States Postal Worker, a paraprofessional; and a Special Education teacher in New York City Public School System for more than twenty years helping to develop and enhance the lives of many children. After retiring, his desire was to return to his native home in Birmingham, Alabama.

He accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior at an early age becoming a born again Christian.  At the time of his home going, he was a member of Bethel Baptist Church (Pratt City) Birmingham, Al. where he served as a deacon.

Robert affectionately cherished the memories of his two deceased children: a son (Robert Earl Edwards, Jr) and a daughter (Sandra).

 He now leaves to forever remember his legacy and cherish his memories, a devoted and loving wife (Merle Mitchell Edwards), two sons: Gary & Calvin (Audra), a very helpful and caring sister in-law (Mary Mitchell),

 grandchildren, great grandchildren, a sister (Carolyn Stroud/William), a brother (Vince Edwards), nephews, nieces, great nephews and nieces, cousins, other relatives, in-laws, and a loving and supportive church family.
