PASTOR TALMADGE JACKSON went to receive his Heavenly Reward on Thursday, August 22, 2024. He was born to Rev. Josh and Eddie Mae Jackson on December 13, 1956, in Birmingham. He was the fifth of seven children born to this union. Pastor Jackson graduated from P.D. Jackson-Olin High School, where he was a competitive basketball player. With a strong desire to fully understand the Word of God, he enrolled in bible college, where he followed God’s directive to “study to show thyself approved” and received a Bible Diploma and a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Pastoral Programs from the Birmingham Easonian Baptist Bible College, a Master of Arts Degree in Biblical Studies from Birmingham Theological Seminary and on June 28, 2024, received a Doctorate Degree in Biblical Exposition from Andersonville Theological Seminary.
Pastor Jackson accepted Christ and was baptized at a very young age at New Hope Baptist Church in Ensley, by his father, who was the Pastor. Little did he know that God would one day lead him down the road of saving souls. He answered God’s call to serve in ministry and was ordained in 1993, under the tutelage of the late Rev. Nelson Gooden. For a number of years, due to his father’s failing health, Pastor Jackson conducted services at churches where his father served as the Pastor in Orrville, Alabama. Pastor Jackson has served as the Pastor of First Missionary Baptist Church of Farmersville, Alabama, Union Missionary Baptist Church, Homewood, Alabama and on October 21, 2023, he was called as the 8th Pastor of Rushing Spring Baptist Church, Tarrant. Under his leadership at Rushing Spring, many souls were saved, and he shared his vision for a better way – EACH ONE, REACH ONE. Pastor Jackson was a faithful member of First Missionary Baptist Church, Pratt City, where Pastor Collins Pettaway, Sr. is the Pastor.
Pastor Jackson retired from U.S. Steel in Fairfield, Alabama after spending many years at the plant. He also worked as a Substitute Teacher for the Birmingham City School System, where he helped to motivate children to be the best they can be. He served in the community, assisting the neighborhood officers and organized neighborhood picnics, fun days, other community events and worked at the polls on election day. He loved riding motorcycles, spending time fishing, watching sports, cooking for the family, and campaigning for his sister. He especially enjoyed spending time with God, preparing his weekly bible studies and inspirational messages. Pastor Jackson was a people’s person, a faithful friend and family man.
Pastor Jackson was preceded in death by his parents, Rev. Josh Jackson, Sr. and Mrs. Eddie Mae Jackson, an older brother, Walter, and a baby daughter, Talresha Jackson.
Pastor Jackson is remembered with love by his daughters: Talmara Arrington, Taria Jackson (who went to be with the Lord 3 days after Pastor Jackson’s death) and Dr. Talerie Jackson; 1 granddaughter: Joy Beard; 2 great-grandchildren: Preston Beard and Journi Williams; 2 brothers: Josh (Rosemary) Jackson, Jr. and Michael Jackson; 3 sisters: Delmarie (Melvin) Williams, Cathy Ryan and Judge Marshell (McKinley) Hatcher; and an abundance of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
