Mary Pritchett Obituary

Mrs. Mary L. Pritchett (Madear) was born July 26, 1930 in Magnolia Alabama to the late Mr. & Mrs. Isiah and Isabella Weatherly. She confessed Christ at an early age and was a faithful member of Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church in Birmingham, Alabama until death.

Madear as affectionately known, received her early education in the Marengo County Public School System. She was employed by the Jefferson County Family Court System for  over 30 years where she retired in 1994. She was a devoted member of the Minniville Chapter Number 810 Order of Eastern Star, Prince Hall Affiliated.

Madear was united in holy matrimony to the late Mr. Leamide Dee Pritchett in May 1946 and remained so for over 46 years before his death. Their union was blessed with 12 children.

God transitioned Madear to her heavenly home on Friday, December 11th, 2020 at Baptist Medical Center Princeton Hospital.

She is preceded in death by her loving parents: Mr. & Mrs. Isiah and Isabel Weatherly, her devoted husband Mr. Leamide Dee Pritchett, a son, Mr. Willie Dee Pritchett, a daughter Ms. Lois B. Pritchett, her only brother Mr. Willie James Weatherly, and two sisters Mrs. Angie E. Weatherly and Mrs. Betty Ruth Kimbrough.

Madear loved the Lord and she spent her life praying, cooking, tending her yard and loving on her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren the loves of her life. She could always be found saying if the Lord says the same and I’m just holding on.

She leaves to cherish her memories 10 devoted and loving children: six sons Matthew (Shirley); Joe Lewis (Cheryl) of Gadsden, Alabama; Eugene; James; Robert and Albert Pritchett all of Birmingham, Alabama; four daughters Barbara Gardner of Radcliff, Kentucky; Ethel Collins, Rhonda Tanniehill (Larry), and Vanessa Hagler (Clinton), all of Birmingham, Alabama. She also leaves two loving sisters Lola Noel of Memphis, TN and Vaughan Pritchett of Gary, IN. A host grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
