John Gooden Obituary

John Gregory Gooden was born to the late Wilson and Annie Pearl Gooden on November 5, 1954.

 

John graduated from G. W. Carver High School in Birmingham, Alabama. After High School, he attended and graduated from Alabama Agricultural and Mechanical University (AAMU) with a Bachelors Degree in Economics.

 

He joined the United States Air Force after graduating from college and worked as an Administrative Specialist until his honorable discharge.

 

John taught in the Birmingham City School System and later started working for the United States Postal Service (USPS). After a rewarding career with the USPS, he retired on disability.

 

He slept gently into the arms of Jesus early Tuesday morning, March 16, 2021. He was preceded in death by: his parents, Mr. Wilson and Mrs. Annie P. Gooden, sister, Cilda Bush, brother, Dr. Nelson W. Gooden Sr., brother-in-laws, Rev. Don E. Bush Sr., Arthur H. Gunn Sr., and many other close family members.

 

He leaves to cherish his memories: three sons, Anson Blakney Sr. (Tara), Ja’Vionni Gooden, and Ray Lewis; three daughters, Stephanie Blakney, Maia Fountain, and Yosha Blakney; 10 grandchildren, Danterrya, Demarion, Anson Jr., Aniya, Demetrice, Camerion, Quintez, Caiden and Colin; four sisters, Alicestene G. Ford, Malva Gunn, Shirley Blackmon, and Nora J. Gooden; three brothers, Adolphus Gooden, Melvin Gooden (Scarlet), and Hoyt Gooden; one aunt, Thelma Rice; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and special friends.
