James Edward Williams was born on July 8, 1942, to Jesse and Dorothy Williams in Fairfield, Alabama.
He attended Westfield High School and later joined the United States Army, where he confessed Christ.
After completing his service in the armed forces, James worked as a welder at the Pullman Standard Plant in Bessemer until its closing. He later attended security school and, upon completion, worked for SouthTrust Bank until his retirement.
James was a proud member of the American Legion Post 347 in Fairfield, Alabama, where he also served as one of their Post Commanders.
He was a devoted family man and is loved and survived by his wife, Ruthell, and his children: Grady Johnson, George McClendon, and Matthew McClendon.
He is also survived by two siblings, Delores Smith and Ronald Williams of Birmingham, Alabama He was preceded in death by his parents, Jesse and Dorothy Williams; his son, Matthew McClendon; and siblings Carla Smith, Reginald Eatman, Jesse Williams Jr., Kevin Williams, Althea Green, and Barbara Williams. He leaves to cherish his memory a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The family would like to thank everyone for their prayers, phone calls, visits, and words of encouragement, and extend special thanks to Arlington Rehabilitation for the care provided during his illness.
