James Walter Holyfield was born November 8, 1950 to the late Mr. Andrew Holyfield, Sr. and Mrs. Dora L. Holyfield.
James confessed Christ at an early age and joined the Twenty-Third Street Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Dr. C. J. McNear.
James education was obtained in the Birmingham Public School System, attending Council Elementary and a graduate of Western Olin High School. After graduating high school he joined the Job Corps and the US Military (Army), serving two terms 1970 (the Vietnam War) and 1975. He worked as an electrician at UAB Hospital, employed at Hayes Aircraft and Swope Construction Company.
James was a mild-mannered person and was willing to share whatever he had. He lived life with vigor and in the midst of fun most people were a “Jive Turkey”.
James was called into the arms of God on Monday, November 27, 2023.
He was preceded in death by his father Andrew Holyfield, Sr. and Mother Dora Holyfield; three brothers, Andrew, Jr. Harvey and Michael Holyfield
He leaves to cherish his memories wife, Emma Holyfield; daughter Kia Holyfield of Alpharetta Georgia; one brother Lewis Holyfield; four sisters, Regina Hall, Bernita (Willie), Olds, Donna Holyfield all of Birmingham, Alabama and Doretta Holyfield-Vega (Jose) of Huntsville Alabama; One Uncle, Jesse Leonard, of Los Angelas California; nieces and nephews, Laquetta (Terry) Glaze, Robert (LaShonda) Hall, Jr., Kameisha (Jumel) Tellis, Brandon Hall, Monretta Vega, Crystal Olds, and CWO2 Jose’ Vega III; eight great nieces and nephews, LaBreccia, Jasmine, Shaquir, Faith, Josiah, Rosetta, Brandon, Jr., Romya; three great-great nieces and nephews; Drevon, Breyuana, and D’Carter; and a host of relatives and friends.
