Horace Dean Brown Jr. was born on September 14th, 1965, to the late Horace Dean Brown Sr. and Jacqueline Matthews Brown.
Growing up alongside his younger brothers Derrick and Darrick Brown, Horace Jr. embraced the teachings of faith and became a member of Bethel A.M.E. Church in Ensley, where he learned the importance of community and spirituality.
His educational journey began at Holy Family Elementary School, followed by graduating from Ensley High School in 1983. Horace Jr. pursued higher education at both Alabama A&M University and Miles College, earning a degree in Business Administration from Miles College. During his time at Alabama A&M, he became a proud member of the Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Gamma Phi Chapter, in the Spring of 1986, fondly known as "The Dream Team."
Horace Jr. embarked on a diverse career path, gaining experience across various industries. His recent professional endeavor was alongside Maury Cobb at Maury Cobb Law Firm. However, his true passion lay in mentoring young men and coaching basketball. He dedicated himself to coaching the Holy Family Elementary Boys Basketball Team for many years, achieving notable success with multiple Catholic League Championships in 2011, 2010, 2009 and 2006. He also coached at St. Francis of Assisi, securing a championship in 1993.
Known for his infectious smile that radiated peace, joy, and love, Horace Jr. was a natural at forming and nurturing connections with others. He had a genuine love for football, particularly for teams like The Alabama A&M University Bulldogs, The Miles College Golden Bears and The Alabama Crimson Tide where he was a regular attendee at games and events, such as the Magic City Classic and A-Day. Affectionately called H.B., he cherished time spent with his fraternity brothers and was known for his vibrant spirit, enjoying fellowship and creating lasting memories.
Horace Jr. was a Renaissance man who will be remembered for his authenticity, generosity, and selflessness. Preceded in death by his parents, Horace Sr. and Jacqueline Mathews Brown. He leaves behind a loving legacy cherished by: his daughter, Anbria (Robert Sr.) Singleton Powell of Fairburn, Georgia; brothers, Derrick A. Brown of Kennesaw, Georgia and Darrick A. Brown of Petersburg, Virginia; 2 grandchildren, Robert Jr. and Addison Powell of Fairburn, Georgia; niece, Kimberly Brown and nephews Darrick Jr and ;Darrick II and a host of extended family members, friends, and colleagues whose lives he touched profoundly.
Horace Dean Brown Jr. will be remembered for his passion for mentoring youth, and his ability to bring joy to those around him. His impact on others and his legacy of kindness and service will endure as a testament to a life well-lived.
