Henry “Bob” Elmore Sr. was born to the late Josephine Elmore and Willie Elmore on December 2, 1941, in Birmingham, Alabama. He was raised in the Kingston community and graduated from Ulman High School. He confessed to Jesus Christ as his savior and was baptized here at First Baptist Church Mountain Park.
In addition to the 35 years at Stockham Valves and Fittings where he retired, Bob played professional baseball with the Birmingham Black Barons, and the Philadelphia Stars. Bob also played with the Birmingham City League for more than 12 years, where he led the team with a .500 batting average. After his retirement he traveled around the country to speak and teach at different baseball events for the youth. Many friends and family will remember his knowledge of baseball which he often shared with everyone he met.
Bob went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, January 8, 2023, surrounded by his family and friends.
He will be remembered most by: his sons, Delray Stephens of Smiths, Alabama and Henry E. Elmore Jr. of Birmingham, Alabama; grandchildren, Delray Stephens Jr, Jon Stephens, and Henry E. Elmore III; cousins, Oscar (Helen) Tarver, and Angela (William) Shipp Catron. He also leaves numerous stepchildren, other relatives, friends, and fellow churchgoers.
