Ms. Essie Mabry Turner, born on May 16, 1935, was the 6th of 10 children to the parents of the late Willie and Emma Mabry in Odenville, Alabama.
Ms. Turner was a product of the St. Clair County school system. After graduating from Miles College, she returned to her roots in St Clair County where she began her lifelong career in education. She was recruited to the Vestavia Hills High School system in 1970 as one of the first African American teachers to work in the newly developed system.
She enjoyed reading on Sunday mornings for mass and was also an avid sports fan.
Ms. Turner is survived by her children, Stephanie Floyd and Andre Turner; her six grandchildren, eight great grandchildren alongside a host of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her eldest son, Reverend Milton Turner; her parents and her nine siblings.
