Sister Curtis Hill, affectionately known to friends and family as “Bonnie” was born on September 21, 1940, in Livingston, Alabama to the late Mellie and Will Matthews.
Curtis confessed Christ at an early age and was baptized at Pleasant View Baptist Church under the Pastoral leadership of Reverend W. B. Bradley. She served in numerous capacities in the New Bethel District and the New Era Progressive State Convention. She was a powerful speaker and touched many lives as a church daycare teacher. She later changed her membership to Twenty-Third Street Baptist Church Ensley, under the Leadership of Pastor James Dunn.
She was educated in the Birmingham City School System where she was a 1958 graduate of Western Olin High School.
Curtis was joined in holy matrimony to the late Bernard “Babyhead” Hill, Sr. They enjoyed a loving and happy marriage that span over five decades. From this union, they were blessed with four sons: Cedric, Byron, Sheridan, and Delwin.
To know Bonnie was to love her. She had a big personality and a jovial spirit. Whoever had the pleasure to be around her, enjoyed her company and laughed at her sharp wit for most of the visit. She was a very joyous person who spread her joy to everyone. She enjoyed life whether eating out with family and friends, shopping, or just hanging out at her house sitting on the porch. She was a great Boy Mom who adored her boys and encouraged them to be the Men that they are today.
She kept a beautifully decorated home and there was no one who could out dress her on Sunday morning. There is no debating this.
Curtis was preceded in death by her Mother and Father; sisters Betty Kimble, Wilma Walker, and Versie Matthews; her brothers Charles Matthews and Webster Matthews, and a son Bernard Hill, Jr.
Curtis departed this life on Monday, May 23, 2022.
She leaves to cherish her precious memories, four sons Cedric Hill, Sr., Byron Hill, Sheridan (Taronda) Hill, Sr., and Delwin (Shawnda) Hill; one daughter Valerie (Larry) Carpenter; one sister Mary Daniel; two brothers Willie (Gwendolyn) Matthews and Vernon (Annie Jean) Matthews; grandchildren: Desiree (Marlon), Raven, Cedric Jr., Christian, Maia, Sheridan II, Makenzie, Tiffany, and Malik and 6 greatgrandchildren: Siena, Carter J, Chase, Bella, Kash, and Nalani; and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
