Christopher Reed, II Obituary

The birth of Christopher James Reed II blessed the union of his father and mother, Christopher and Consuela Reed on January 5, 1999 in Birmingham, Alabama. C.J. was a spirited happy young child. He enjoyed his childhood to the fullest always playing, joking, singing, and laughing.

He confessed Christ early in life. C.J. was baptized under his pastor/great uncle, Reverend Daniel Dunning at Gospel of Peace Church. He attended Calvary Resurrection Academy, Going Elementary, Huffman Middle School and Spain Park High School.

Christopher enlisted in the United States Navy on January 22, 2018. He completed Gas Turbine System Technician-Mechanical A* School. He joined the crew of the USS CARNEY in Rota, Spain. Christopher travelled to Romania, Bulgaria, Georgia, Ukraine, Algeria, Egypt, Israel, South Africa, Seychelles, Greece, United Kingdom, and Scotland (18,500 Nautical Miles). He earned the “Emerald Shellback” Award (a rare Naval status granted from crossing the Prime Meridian and Equator at the same time). Christopher was awarded the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal for professional achievement in the superior performance of his duties while serving as EM01 and EM02 work center supervisor from September 2021 to 2022. During this period, Petty Officer Reed’s leadership of six sailors was pivotal during three 6th Fleet Patrols, a 5th fleet deployment and extended maintenance availability. During the dry dock period, he oversaw 4,000 maintenance checks and led the repairs of three low pressure air compressors and four gas turbine engines, saving the Navy $160K. His expertise contributed to the successful completion of Mobility Engineering, Light Off Assessment, DCMA, T-C 3/4/5, and Carney’s first successful full power run. Petty Officer Reed’s exceptional professionalism, initiative, and dedication to duty reflected credit upon him and were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.

Christopher leaves to cherish his memories: his father and mother, Christopher and Consuela Reed; sister, Cortney Reed; grandmother, Ruby Williams; Nana, Wanda Ross; aunts, Christina Woods, Rhonda Rolley and Tina (Juan) Earl; uncle, Glendrick Williams; godparents, Anthony and Sabrina Stephens; his first love and girlfriend, Zhana Brown; and a host of other family, friends and Navy brothers and sisters.
