Bernard Hill, Sr. Obituary

Bernard Hill, Sr., known affectionately to family and friends as “Babyhead”, was born October 4, 1935 in Lowndes County, Alabama to Lettie Wiley and Earnest Hill. Both preceded him in death. Bernard confessed Christ at an early age and was baptized at Twenty-Third Baptist Church Ensley under the Pastoral leadership of Reverend C. J. McNear. He was educated in the Birmingham City School System. He was a 1955 graduate of Western Olin High School’s first graduating class, where he served as the first Class President of the school. Bernard was joined in holy matrimony to his beautiful wife Curtis “Bonnie” and they enjoyed a loving happy marriage that span over 5 decades. Bernard had one daughter Valerie and 5 sons Bernard Jr., Cedric, Byron, Sheridan, and Delwin. He loved all of his children dearly. Bernard was a hard worker with a very strong work ethic. He took pride in working to provide for his family. He worked for Alabama Metal Industrial where he retired after 35 years of devoted service. He was also a self-taught carpenter who used his talents to beautify his home as well as the homes of his children, family, and friends. Babyhead was a soft-spoken person who loved to fellowship with his friends. He was an active member of Twenty-Third Street Baptist Church Ensley, where he served as a member of the choir and an usher. Later in life, as he became more active in the church fostering a closer relationship with Christ. He enjoyed reading his bible and attending bible study. Babyhead had a great relationship with his children and grandchildren. He loved them and they adored him. Bernard departed this life on Friday, February 5, 2021. He was preceded in death by his son Bernard Hill, Jr., sisters Annie Howard and Ora Bell Slater, and his brother Lawrence Hill. He leaves to cherish his precious memories, his loving and devoted wife Curtis Hill, one daughter: Valerie (Larry) Carpenter; four sons Cedric Hill, Sr., Byron Hill, Sheridan (Taronda) Hill, and Delwin (Shawnda) Hill; 9 grandchildren: Desiree (Marlon), Raven, Cedric, Jr., Christian, Maia, Sheridan, II, MaKenzie, Tiffany, and Malik and 5 greatgrandchildren: Sienna, Carter J, Chase, Bella, and Kash; and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
